WAYS TO BEAT CHINA (NOT BOYCOTT)
WAYS TO BEAT CHINA (NOT BOYCOTT)
1)The Lost 'Masterstroke' on Tibet
Tibet is very crucial for India, for not just historical and religious reasons, but diplomatically too, It was Tibet only that instigated tensions over the Indo-China border. After annexing Tibet, China started to eye upon the Indian territories associated with Tibet. Jawahar Lal Nehru never assumed that China would be able to brutally suppress the Tibetan rebellion and would take over the entire country. The icing on the cake was when Atal Bihari Vajpayee legally recognized Tibet as Chinese territory and lost the last card against China. Today, this could have been called a 'masterstroke' but diplomatically speaking, it was a huge failure of the Indian governance. Because we had one substantial card to dominate China and we lost it. In fact, us identifying Tibet as Chinese territory opened the way for China to claim Arunachal Pradesh as 'South Tibet'. Many diplomats believe that in the event of war, China would aim at blocking the 'chicken neck' that connects the rest of India to north-eastern states. Which is why China keeps a constant eye on Arunachal Pradesh. What can India do in such circumstances? Prior to all, we'll have to stop being a spectator and come to the foreground in this whole Tibet issue. This will not just be beneficial for us but for Tibet as well. Because Tibet was promised autonomy, but it only proved to be a hoax. Many people believe that Dalai Lama should be awarded the prestigious Bharat Ratna to move forward on this issue. If we raise the Tibet issue with China then diplomatically, we can cause serious loss to China, if not physically or economically. The entire world is compassionate towards Tibet right now. We just need a strong leader to lead the way.
2) What is the REAL cost of cheap goods?
The second needful way to beat China is to help its minorities. We are talking about the Uighur Muslims who are considered the most persecuted minorities in the world. Detention camps are built for this community in Xinjiang. China calls these detention camps, "re-education camps" where this community which is considered terrorist is taught nationalist values and ideology. We all know that China has managed its global relations solely on the basis of its economy. There is significant importance of Xinjiang and Uighur Muslims behind China's growing economy. All the Islamist countries around the world are silent over the Uighur Muslim issue. The Prime Minister of Pakistan even said that he doesn't know much about the issue since it is not so much in the newspapers. If only Pakistan can focus beyond Kashmir and notice the persecution of Uighur Muslims in China. Some reports have shown that more than 80,000 Uighur Muslims are forcefully made to work in factories for 82 global brands such as Amazon, HP, Acer, Apple, Cisco. If today, India starts raising its voice for the Uighur Muslims in the UN along with America, China may face serious charges against human rights. Because the import and export of goods made with forced labor is illegal internationally. With this step, we can cause substantial damage to China, both diplomatically and economically.
3)China-Nomics (and how to better it)
Now comes the time for China's biggest power, not the military but its economic prowess. We can throw our Chinese TV and phones in the heat of the moment but this will not do anything to beat China; it would only disrupt your monthly budget and your kid's sanity. To actually beat China, we'll have to empower our own economy. For this, if we can put emphasis on pharmaceuticals, textile industry, engineering goods, and the chemical industry, we can compete strongly against China. Where the various industries in the country are facing worse times than the Congress party, the pharmaceutical industry has managed to grow by 10%. India's chemical industry is also growing sharply. Everybody understands the potential of our IT sector. The IT sector covers nearly 45% of our total service exports. It can be proved extremely instrumental for our economic growth if the needful attention is being given to it. If we start spending more in our start-up companies than China, we may not need to ban Chinese apps. We can actually gain more this way. Reliance industries have shown us that we can compete against China in advanced technologies such as 5G. If we'll manufacture better products, provide better services, invest more, export our products internationally then China will be boycotted globally.
4)Global Alliance
Remember how we used to read in schools that unity is strength, the same principle applies here. Today, China has proved to be a menace for not just India but for many countries around the globe. For example, Australia, America, Canada, and now Japan is also trying to reduce its dependence on China. We need to expand our trade relations with these countries and form a global alliance to restrict China from bullying. China has been successful in encompassing India with its String of Pearls project. This has also helped China to escalate its influence over the Indian ocean. Under this project, China has already secured the Gwadar port in Pakistan. To counter this, we worked out a deal with Iran over the Chabahar port. Recently, Iran had a massive deal with China. Following which, Iran cited delay in funding as a reason and scrapped the Chabahar port deal with India. At these times, we can't compromise our global relations with our trusted trade partners. Especially with countries, where China is expanding its relations with. We'll have to make the most of these times when the entire world is against China, given the global pandemic, we'll have to become an alternative to China both economically and democratically. Only then, we'll be able to turn Boycott China into Beat China. And if we take the example of Nehru, yes the same Nehru who is to be blamed every time! He made one good decision in this regard. He was considered the architect of the Non-Aligned Movement. When the USA and USSR were trying to destroy each other during the cold war, Nehru managed to keep India and other countries out of this conflict. He receives a great deal of credit internationally for this. India needs to show the same international statesmanship to beat China.
5)Dissent and China
And finally, the last way is to support the dissenters in China who are being suppressed Dissent and China has the same relationship as Tom and Jerry, journalism and 'Godi' media, honesty, and politicians! Whether or not our air force can benefit from cloud cover, but we can definitely benefit from the poor condition of dissent in China. You must have read about the protests in Hong Kong and the reaction of the Chinese government and police towards this protest recently. Not just today, China has always crushed people's voices in the name of national security. In fact, China's youth aren't even aware of the famous protest at Tiananmen square. This would be like today you don't teach Indian kids about Federalism and Secularism. Think about it, which country would like to set-up its business in a country where people are not even promised basic human rights? When some Chinese people tried to question the economic policy of China, their mouths were shut. Detaining and house-arresting opposition leaders, activists; threatening their families is more common in China than fake news. No country has come out in open to take a stand against these atrocities in China. India can come forward and give a voice to the protesters in Hong Kong. This will hurt China politically and will also damage its image worldwide that China is trying hard to revamp.
6)Problems in Beating China?
There can be many ways for India to beat China but none of them will be profitable today. I am not saying that these initiatives are not effective. These are the only ways but first, we will have to beat ourselves with respect to these issues. China has been aiding Pakistan for years in the Kashmir conflict. It has been trying to expand its influence more and more in Ladakh, Indian Government's move to abrogate article 370 has given China an altogether new reason to keep the Kashmir issue alive in the UN. Before questioning China over its treatment of minorities, we'll have to stop asking our own minorities to go to Pakistan. As far as the economy is concerned, we'll have to move beyond Adani, Ambani, and encourage other businesses to flourish in India. It is not as if our businessmen don't have the potential to lead the global market. But they are afraid of combating the tax terrorism, regulations, and government policy changes. How can we support Hong Kong when we ourselves detain our own students and protesters, citing them as anti-nationals. Where China is trying to upgrade its trade relations with its neighbors, we are working towards complicating our relationship with our neighbors as if some TV serial is going on. Now even Nepal is standing against us.
So finally when we are done with toppling Rajasthan's government; if we have time from lodging FIRs against comedians; if the government is done with headline and media management; maybe we can finally focus on beating China, and stop this nuisance of boycotting China.
